RFK [Track 14]


RFK is a clip of Robert Kenndy announcing the assignation of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  


The thing to understand about this clip is that this was Bobby Kennedy without a prompter or anything prepared to address the crowd. If you watch or hear the original footage you can hear someone tell Bobby that Dr. King is dead and within a few seconds Robert is up on the podium reminding people of MLK's message. I thought this to be an especially poignant addition to the album considering The Rebirth of Hope and Bobby's use of Aeschylus, an Ancient Greek playwright.   

Bobby gave the speech in Indianapolis and although there were riots in cities across the country that night, none broke out in Indianapolis.

Love and Respect [Track 22]

This song represents a theme that is present in Lyceum Recordz and that is Love & Respect for women. In this song, I am talking about the ideal girl for me. "She get me high, when i come by." Here, I am talking about how she makes me feel. I'm NOT saying that the girl for me literally gets me high all the time. Instead, I should feel high when I'm around her because her smile makes me wild. Naturally, that makes me want to be closer to her emotionally and sexually (and "make her body cry"). The first verse is about me meeting a girl I'm crazy about and deciding it would be okay if I "fell into her" and became closer. The second verse is me realizing I am in love with this girl because of the way she makes me feel (i.e. "butterflys in my stomach" and a "feel'n of heaven"). Hey! [Track 20]

Edulution: 20 Hey! by Lyceum Recordz Hey! is a poem that is about finding a compatible mate; rather than strictly just someone who is physically attractive. A bazaar is an old and universal term meaning store or market. I am trying to paint a picture of an older black woman named Charese who comes over to me from across the bar to try and 'pick me up' for the night. She is smart and open minded! She shocks me by being selfless, buying a couple drinks just to have a good time, and dedicating them to cleaning up the gulf--which, when I wrote this, was being filled with Oil by the BP spill. However, it is impossible to ignore that she is looking at me with wanting eyes.
